Family Law & Divorce

Effective Family Law and Divorce Lawyer in Niceville, Florida

My firm handles a wide range of domestic relations matters efficiently, affordably, and with a great deal of compassion. I realize that my clients who are divorcing are going through a very difficult emotional time. It is a major life event, and we treat you with the respect and understanding you deserve.

In addition to divorce, I assist clients with the following family law and divorce-related matters:

  • Premarital agreements
  • Child support, child custody and visitation
  • Paternity
  • Temporary orders
  • No contact orders
  • Temporary protection orders

Divorce

As with every divorce, we will need to discuss some deeply personal and confidential matters. I will do everything I can to make this experience a comfortable one. At the same time, I will provide the best possible legal representation:

  • Explaining all your legal options in clear language to make your decisions easier
  • Protecting your rights
  • Advocating for everything you deserve

Florida is a "no fault" state, which means you do not have to prove cruelty, adultery, or another matter to obtain a divorce. As a result, the most common ground for a divorce is that it is "irretrievably broken". You must believe that your marriage is beyond help, and be able to tell us why. In certain cases, it may also be helpful to allege other grounds - options we will discuss with you prior to the filing of your Petition. We may also need to respond to a Petition filed by your spouse.

The Petition begins the divorce process, giving details about your marriage and how you wish it to be dissolved. It may request custody of any minor children in the marriage, address visitation rights, and request an award of alimony and child support, property division, attorney's fees and court costs. If your spouse has already filed a Petition, bring a copy to our meeting.

Complex issues to be resolved

There are many significant decisions involved in a divorce, all requiring legal expertise to ensure that you come away from the proceeding with everything you want and deserve from the marriage. In all circumstances, you should have an experienced, competent attorney working for you.

You want to be in a position to make your own decisions or come to an agreement with your spouse, not have a judge who knows nothing about you or your marriage and children make them for you.

  • Child support
  • Child custody
  • Visitation/contact rights
  • Division of property and debts
  • Alimony

Other options in dissolving a marriage include mediation or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Both approaches are conducted in a spirit of cooperation and negotiation, and may minimize the emotional impact of your divorce on both you and your children. I can explain your options for mediation or ADR and help you arrange for either process, if necessary.

Uncontested Divorce

I handle uncontested divorces in Florida for a fee of $649.00 plus applicable court filing fees. I can handle an uncontested divorce via e-mail or USPS mail. Please call my office to find out all the details regarding uncontested divorce.

Whether your divorce is contested or uncontested, it is extremely important that you know all of your rights in the matter and follow all related procedures carefully. I can help you do both while minimizing the emotional impact of your divorce and ensuring that you receive everything you deserve.
